Today, the Senate Judiciary Committee began the confirmation process for the Trump administration's second nominee to the Supreme Court, Brett Kavanaugh.

"The Senate needs to stand up and protect American women and their rights. If Brett Kavanaugh is confirmed, Roe vs. Wade could be overturned and millions of women will lose access to basic healthcare independence and the right to make their own decisions," said Josh Welle, candidate for New Jersey's 4th congressional district. "My opponent, Chris Smith has been waiting for this moment his entire 38-year career in Congress. He has spent his long political career working to deprive women of their reproductive rights. Representative Smith supports legislation that bans abortion, even in the case of rape or other health reasons. Chris Smith is bad for the women of our country, and by confirming Brett Kavanaugh, his anti-women agenda becomes increasingly more attainable. As a veteran, I spent years overseas fighting for equal rights for all Americans. My opponent and Brett Kavanaugh want to take those rights away from women."

Brett Kavanaugh was selected as a Supreme Court nominee by the Federalist Society, an advising group known to choose judges for the bench who will lead with ultra-conservative principles. Selection of this nominee will allow the current Congress, with Representative Chris Smith in the foreground, to deprive women of their rights in regards to access to healthcare and safe, legal abortions.

Josh Welle is an Annapolis graduate, Afghanistan veteran, Commander in the Navy Reserve, and former founder of a technology company. He was raised in Wall Township and is a Democratic candidate for New Jersey's 4th Congressional District competing to unseat 37-year incumbent Chris Smith. He lives with his wife, Angela, in Monmouth County, New Jersey.
